What No One Tells You After Miscarriage — And How I Can Support You in Hertford
Written By Kerry Rutherford
Miscarriage is something none of us ever want to think about - until it happens. And when it does, far, far too many of us are left without the care or clarity we deserve.
At my fertility acupuncture clinic in Hertford, I often support women after miscarriage. Whether it’s your first loss or something you’ve been through more than once, you don’t have to go through it alone.
Miscarriage Is Common but That Doesn’t Mean It’s Easy
After one miscarriage, most women I speak to are told ‘it’s normal, just keep trying’. And while it’s true that many people do go on to have a healthy pregnancy, your loss should never be brushed off as it often is, sometimes even by well-meaning friends and family.
You may feel confused, anxious, disconnected from your body - or all of the above. Even if you thought you would be ‘strong enough’ to handle it, baby loss hits hard and it hits everyone at different stages.
I help my lovely clients in Hertford work through this recovery stage with personalised care that supports emotional wellbeing, cycle regulation, and gentle preparation for conception.
Recurrent Miscarriage: What the Guidelines Say
Many women don’t realise (because no-one tells us and GPs are often unaware) that since 2023 the latest NHS guidance (via the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists) defines recurrent miscarriage as two or more losses—and they don’t have to be consecutive.
So if you’ve had:
Two or more pregnancy losses at any time in your life
Losses interspersed with healthy pregnancies
Unexplained early miscarriages with no investigations
…you may be eligible for further support, and you absolutely should ask for it.
What Investigations Might Be Offered After Two Losses?
If you're referred to a recurrent miscarriage clinic, they may recommend:
Blood tests (e.g. for thyroid health or clotting disorders like APS)
Pelvic ultrasound to assess the uterus lining and structure
Genetic testing in some cases (for both partners)
If you’re unsure how to request these, I can help guide those conversations and refer you on when needed.
The Role of Supportive Care (And Why It Matters)
Studies show that having regular, compassionate support during early pregnancy increases the chance of carrying to term - even when no medical treatment is given.
That’s because consistent care reduces stress, helps regulate hormones, and allows early concerns to be picked up quickly.
At my Hertford clinic, I offer:
Acupuncture tailored to your unique miscarriage recovery and early pregnancy
Emotional support to process grief or anxiety
Space to ask questions and rebuild trust in your body
You Don’t Need to Wait for a Third Loss to Be Taken Seriously
If you’ve experienced miscarriage, even once, please know you don’t need to wait to be heard or helped.
You deserve support. You deserve answers. And if you’re thinking about trying again, I’m here to help you feel steady, safe, and prepared - emotionally and physically.
If you're based in Hertford or surrounding areas and want to feel more supported after miscarriage, I’d love to help.
